Sometimes I feel like the 3rd world war is currently being waged… online. Like the battles that are constantly being fought by Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Apple, Sony, IBM, Verizon, AT&T, et. al. over my attention/money/data essentially constitute a war over who will “own” me.

How do we rise above the grip of resistance-addicted lizard brain into unleashed, energized, full tilt mojo and artistic moxy?

Seth Godin:
The lizard is the prehistoric brain stem, the amygdala, the part of our brain responsible for anger, revenge, sex and safety. It’s what a chicken has, all that a chicken has.

The lizard is mistaken.

The lizard successfully believed, for a really long time, that safety was good. Avoid saber-tooth tigers. Duck your head. Don’t raise your hand. That = survival.

Now, of course, that equals burger-flipping and Wal-Mart greeting. Safety is a recipe for food stamps.

What the lizard ought to be doing is pushing you to do art, pushing you to stand out, pushing you to do work that matters and to make a difference.

So, you rise above by seducing and quieting the lizard, and then, when it’s snoozing, do exactly the opposite of what it wants you to do.
”

- From a short but sweet interview on… Burning questions with seth godin: faith, lizards, and your art

Just a little reminder why sodas (and other junk foods and diets...

Just a little reminder why sodas (and other junk foods and diets heavy in meat and dairy) will harm you in the long run…

Say goodnight Kindle.

Here’s a fun article on an almost invisible aspect of Disneyland: theme park audio.

Everyone notices the screams of people and machines, but do you notice how the background music remains at 2 on the volume dial, or how where/when/how it changes melodies from one “land” to another?

For the most part the integration between Apple Mail and iCal works for me. To Do items are seen and created in both places. And the quick “create new iCal event…” for dates and times is a feature I use frequently. BUT it can bite hard if you’re not careful.

When trying to decide on a time to meet, having already decided on the day and place, it’s easy to reach the final email with the agreed upon time (say 10:30 AM) and go to add it to iCal with a control-click only to add it to today and not tomorrow.

Now I don’t expect Apple to be smart enough to follow the threaded conversation in order to find out other event details, but I do expect them not to add a 10:30 AM event when it’s currently 5:15 PM. That’s just stupid.

And I would’ve missed my meeting tomorrow had I not gone back to change it to 11 AM.

Phew. I feel better for telling all 2 of my followers, and 3 of my non-tumblr friends this crucial bit of info.
