more bandcamp.com

Continuing the bandcamp.com theme, and combining it with my love for covers, go now and grab Ed Tullett’s Covers, More Covers and Even More Covers. The latter includes an acoustic cover of Mr. Brightside by The Killers.

And if you feel like being doubly impressed by Ed, dig around and find out a little about him. Most guys just make a mixed tape/cd/playlist for their girlfriends…

While I’m on the topic of bandcamp and new music, check out:

  • Beta Radio - Seven Sisters
  • Hooked - Berel Alexander Ensemble (solid even if a bit over-hyped in the description text)
  • Slash and Burn EP - James Lanman and The Good Hurt (rock on)
  • Trap Doors Demo (want more of Ed’s accent with Tim’s added musicality?)
  • Slow Motion Breath Forward EP - Talik (delicious downtempo soundtrack. wish I could remember which band this reminds me of…)
  • Michael Rossback (take your pick. all great.)

bandcamp... who knew?

Well… I didn’t until yesterday. Now I’m psyched. Just on the “acoustic” tag alone I’ve chanced upon these gems:

Here Comes the Rain Again (Eurythmics cover) - JB Eckl  (bought the digital album)
Ticking of Your Bicycle - Ben Talmi (bought the digital album)
A Girl, a Boy, and a Graveyard - Jeremy Messersmith  (bought the digital album)
A Clear Day - Naren Rauch
It’s Raining Again (smile) - Holly Brook
Don’t Dream It’s Over (Crowded House cover) - Three Legged Fox (free d/l)
Little Deaths - Emily Barker and The Red Clay Halo

And that’s barely scratching the surface.

Freshin’ up the iTunes Library with some Amazon Freebies

Every now and again I like to peruse the Free MP3 area on Amazon. The $5 Special Deals are pretty great too. (I know I’d feel differently if I were a professional musician, but $5 per digital album is a fair price to me.)

I picked up Broken Bells for $5 when it released. I like it even if the wife vetos it on road trips.

Today’s plunder of freebies is music-for-the-office-while-I-work:

Philip Glass - The Orange Mountain Music Philip Glass Sampler Vol. I
A must-have sampler mostly from his film soundtracks (Koyaanisqatsi, Fog of War, etc).

Various Artists - I Love the 80’s, Vol I
The 1880’s that is. A great compilation of symphonies from the Late Romantic period.

Or maybe Baroque is more to your liking?

Various Artists - Eternal Baroque
If opera’s not your thing, then pass, but to me opera puts me back in a small 1-room apartment my girlfriend and I shared in Bellingham, WA. We lived in a converted attic of an old house just down the hill from the college and above a guy who listened to opera in his kitchen whenever he was home. I found it soothing and culinarily inspiring.

Never sure how long the free stuff sticks around, but sorting the massive list by album helps to see which ones are offered in entirety.
